Agnes Mzobotshi at Mzintlava Quarries, in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape, as workers load stone mined at the small-scale into a truck. Mzobotshi owns the quarry together with Rose Williams. ....The two women have given a 10 percent share in the business to the community through a trust, and have hired a core staff of six employees, who are either widows of mine workers or retrenched mineworkers themselves. ....The mine also hires workers from the community on a casual and rotating basis, so as to spread income throughout the unemployment-ravished community. When they are able to raise the funds they need to move further ahead, they are planning to hire another 100 workers...
